Ashburton is a mostly post-war suburb about 12 km south-east of the CBD in the City of Boroondara, centred on the Ashburton Village shops in High Street. When the railway was extended to Alamein in 1948, it served a new Housing Commission estate whose streets were named after wartime battles and aircraft: Victory Boulevard, Tobruk Road, Liberator Street.

For an electrician in Ashburton, that history means two very different kinds of job: original post-war homes, and the larger two-storey houses that have replaced some of them. At the 2021 census, 76% of homes were separate houses, above the Victorian figure of 73%, and 20% were townhouses or semis.

Post-war Commission homes around Alamein

The functional homes built for returned servicemen and their families are now around 75 years old. Unless they've been updated, expect a small switchboard, few power points per room and lighting circuits without RCD protection.

If yours has been extended at the back, it's worth checking that the addition has its own protected circuits rather than hanging off an original power circuit.

We check the board and the cable, then quote an upgrade that fits your plans, whether you intend to stay as you are, renovate or eventually rebuild.

01

Tell us what you need

Quick call, message or online form, takes two minutes. Tell us the job (or the problem) and we'll be straight back to you.

02

Get your fixed price

We inspect, then hand you one clear all-in price up front. What we quote is what you pay, zero surprise line items.

03

Sit back, job done tidy

A licensed A-Grade electrician does the work to AS/NZS 3000, tests every circuit and leaves your place cleaner than they found it.

Newer two-storey homes and renovations

Houses in colonial, federation and modern two-storey styles now sit beside the original homes. A renovation or extension is the best time to get the electrical layout right: enough circuits, outlets where the furniture goes, and room on the board for an EV charger or induction cooking later.

We work from your plans, walk through each room with you and quote the electrical work as one fixed price.

Downlights and LED upgrades

If your rooms still rely on one central light, new downlights can make a big difference to how a space feels. We agree the positions with you before cutting any holes, and fit IC-4 rated LEDs that can sit under ceiling insulation.

Dimmers and separate switching for different parts of a room can be added at the same time.

Ashburton FAQs

Ashburton electrician questions

Do you work in Alamein and Solway?+

Yes. Both are part of Ashburton, and we cover the whole suburb down to Gardiners Creek.

We're planning a renovation. When should we involve an electrician?+

Before the walls are closed in. Planning outlets, lighting and appliance circuits at the drawing stage avoids changes later, and we can quote from your plans.

Are you licensed?+

Yes. The work is done by an A-Grade licensed electrician, fully insured, to AS/NZS 3000, with a Certificate of Electrical Safety where required.
