Brighton East sits inland from Brighton, bounded roughly by Nepean Highway, South Road and the Bentleigh side of Hawthorn Road. The housing is largely interwar and post-war brick, with a growing share of townhouses built on subdivided blocks, so the electrical work splits between bringing old boards up to standard and adding capacity to new ones.
Local knowledge · Brighton East
The solid brick homes through here are well built but electrically dated. Original boards with rewireable fuses, a single power circuit covering most of the house, and lighting circuits with no RCD protection are all still common, especially where the same family has held the property for decades.
Renovated versions of those same homes are a different job. A rear extension, an updated kitchen and a new bathroom typically get added to whatever board already existed, leaving a mix of protected and unprotected circuits in one enclosure and very little spare capacity.
The newer townhouses have modern boards and compliant wiring, but garages are often built without a charging circuit, and adding one means checking the supply available to that dwelling rather than assuming there is room.
Switchboard upgrades top the list. We replace the fuse board with a properly sized enclosure, put RCD protection on every final subcircuit, split overloaded circuits so the kitchen and the rest of the house are not fighting each other, and label the result so it is readable.
EV charger installation runs a close second in both the older homes and the townhouses. The install is priced after we look at the switchboard, the available supply and the cable route to the garage or carport, because those three things decide whether load management or a board upgrade needs to be part of the job.
Alongside those, we do a lot of practical work: outdoor lighting and power for decks and side entries, exhaust fans, dedicated circuits for cooling, and fault finding on circuits that trip intermittently. Prices are agreed in writing first, and finished work is certified.
