Surrey Hills and Mont Albert sit side by side about 11 to 12 km east of the CBD, straddling the Cities of Boroondara and Whitehorse, just past Canterbury. Both are known for period homes on streets lined with mature trees, and both have their own small shopping strips: Union Road in Surrey Hills and Hamilton Street in Mont Albert.
Older houses in this part of the east tend to share the same electrical story. The homes are well built and well loved, but many still carry switchboards and wiring from decades ago, while renovations and extensions keep adding load the original installation was never planned for.
Surrey Hills is bounded by Elgar Road, Riversdale Road, Highfield Road and Whitehorse Road, and its period homes are built in either brick or weatherboard, mostly in Victorian, Federation and Edwardian styles.
In houses of that age we look for the clear markers of original wiring: rubber or cotton braided cable in the roof space, two-pin unearthed power points, cloth-covered flex on light fittings, and metal light fittings with no earth conductor. None of these mean the house has to be rewired tomorrow, but they do mean every circuit should be tested before anything is extended.
How it works
No back-and-forth, no chasing quotes, no cowboy pricing. Enquire today, get a clear fixed price fast, and we'll have a licensed sparky on site, often within the same week.

Quick call, message or online form, takes two minutes. Tell us the job (or the problem) and we'll be straight back to you.
We inspect, then hand you one clear all-in price up front. What we quote is what you pay, zero surprise line items.
A licensed A-Grade electrician does the work to AS/NZS 3000, tests every circuit and leaves your place cleaner than they found it.
Mont Albert is the smaller of the two suburbs. Between the tram and railway lines the houses are largely Edwardian, English Domestic Revival and Arts and Crafts in style.
Homes like these often have decorative ceilings and solid walls, which means every cable run needs to be planned properly rather than forced through. We work out the route first, use the roof space and existing cavities wherever practical, and patch neatly around new outlets so the character of the house is left intact.
Ceramic rewireable fuses with fuse wire date a board to before the 1980s in most homes. Many older boards were not designed to support modern appliances, air conditioning, EV chargers and other high-demand equipment.
A modern switchboard adds Residual Current Devices (RCDs) and circuit breakers that cut power the moment a fault is detected. It is also the first thing we check before an EV charger goes in, because the existing system has to safely support the extra load. If it can't, we recommend the board or circuit improvements needed, and quote them upfront.
Most homeowners call us for lighting and power when they've run out of outlets and are relying on double adaptors and power boards, when a room feels dim or unevenly lit, or when a renovation, new kitchen, home office or nursery needs extra circuits added before the space is usable.
Larger jobs, such as running new sub-circuits from the switchboard or rewiring a room during a renovation, are quoted as a fixed-price package after an on-site inspection. If the work uncovers older wiring that isn't safe to reconnect, we flag it and quote the remediation separately.
