Lighting technology has improved significantly over recent years, and LED lighting is now the preferred choice for modern homes. LED lights use far less energy than traditional halogen or incandescent lighting while providing brighter, more consistent illumination.

Most homes we upgrade still have 50W halogen downlights installed 10-15 years ago. The tell-tale signs it's time to replace them: bulbs blowing every few months, visible scorching or browning around the fitting, ceiling insulation cut back or missing above the lights (a fire-risk workaround for halogen heat), rooms that feel dim even with every light on, and quarterly power bills that jump every winter when lighting hours climb. Modern IC-4 rated LEDs sit safely against insulation, cut lighting energy use by roughly 80%, and last 15,000-25,000 hours instead of 1,000-2,000.

A typical whole-home downlight replacement (20-30 fittings) is a same-day job — usually 4-6 hours. We isolate the lighting circuit, remove each halogen fitting and its transformer, install the new IC-4 LED, and re-terminate at the existing rose so there's no patching of the ceiling. If you want to change layouts (adding lights over a kitchen bench, spacing lights more evenly in a lounge, adding dimming) we'll mark it out with you before we cut so you can see the plan on the ceiling first.

Every upgrade includes the LED fittings themselves (5000K or 3000K, dimmable or non-dimmable — your choice), the labour, removal and disposal of the old halogens and transformers, function and dimmer testing on each circuit, and a Certificate of Electrical Safety. We'll flag any existing wiring that's not suitable for LED drivers (undersized neutrals, dodgy loop terminations from the halogen era) and quote the fix separately rather than install over the top of it. If dimming behaviour matters to you — kitchen, dining, bedrooms — we match the driver and dimmer as a pair so you don't get flicker or a narrow dim range.
