The terraces off Smith Street and Wellington Street usually share the same story: a small original board, circuits added over a century of owners, and no clear record of what feeds what. Half a rewire done in the 1980s and another patch during a kitchen renovation is a very normal thing to find, and it is why we map and label circuits before quoting anything larger.

Walk-up flats bring their own constraints. Meter banks are shared, cable paths run through common property, and any board work needs to be planned so the rest of the block keeps its power. Getting access and sequencing right matters as much as the electrical work itself.

Warehouse conversions in this pocket often mix industrial supply with domestic use: three-phase left over from the building's working life, high ceilings, exposed services and open plans with very few walls to hide a cable in. The result is usually a design conversation before a wiring one.

Boards with ceramic fuses and no safety switches are still common here, and they are the priority. A modern board with RCD protection on every circuit, correctly sized breakers and clear labelling is what makes the rest of a renovation possible, and it is what protects anyone using the property day to day.

Lighting is the second most requested job. Old fluorescent battens and halogen downlights burn power and throw heat into the ceiling; swapping them for properly specified LED fittings cuts running costs and lets you set the colour temperature to suit a warehouse space or a small terrace lounge. Dimming needs matching drivers, which is where most retrofits go wrong.

In older flats and terraces we also see a lot of tired power circuits: two-pin era wiring, loose terminations, and power points added off lighting circuits. Those are found by testing, repaired properly, and documented with a Certificate of Electrical Safety when we finish.
