If a circuit trips during or after heavy rain and won't reset, or if you notice water pooling near an outdoor power point or meter box, treat it as urgent — don't keep resetting it. A single garden light not working on a dry day can usually wait for a standard visit.

A hot or damp-smelling switchboard, exposed wiring anywhere outdoors, or total loss of power following a storm all warrant a same-day call, particularly given how quickly salt air can accelerate corrosion once water gets into a fitting.

We answer in about 5 minutes and ask what the weather's been doing, since storm timing often points straight to the likely area of the fault. On site, we test circuits methodically — pool equipment, garden lighting, external power points — rather than assuming it's whatever tripped last.

Larger bayside homes often have multiple outdoor circuits added over the years, so isolating the actual fault properly, rather than replacing parts on a guess, is what actually fixes it and avoids a repeat call next time it rains.

Water ingress into external meter boxes and outdoor junction points is the most common storm-related fault, followed by corroded terminals on pool pump and garden lighting circuits caused by ongoing salt exposure rather than any single storm.

In some older homes we also find outdoor circuits that were never properly weatherproofed to begin with, which fail every time there's sustained heavy rain. Once isolated and made safe, we can advise on weatherproof fittings that hold up better to the local conditions.
